The reason it appears on this list is the fitness centre: it has a sauna and steam room, and local Thai residents hold memberships to use it. Usage is high, and people cruise there waiting for opportunities — the editor stayed two nights and things really did happen.

Good value in the Silom gay district — modern, affordable, with a pool and a fitness centre. Walking distance to DJ Station, Mania Sauna and the Soi 2 bars, which makes it a practical base for nightlife and for meeting people you found on an app. Budget dining nearby, like Alphabet Cafe & Bar with 89-baht lunch sets.

Directly opposite Trinity Silom. Bigger-than-average rooms, freshly renovated, and it doesn't make much noise about itself. The outdoor pool is relaxed and unhurried; the sauna is quiet on a slow afternoon, and when the right person walks in, the low foot traffic is in your favour. Well placed for either a big night out or a very quiet night in.

Right in the thick of it: CentralWorld across the street, Big C next door, and DJ Station a few minutes away by bike. The rooftop bar is the draw — catch the sunset, order something cold, and Moxy's playful energy has a way of turning a quiet drink into the start of something. The kind of hotel you check into for the location and check out of with a story.

The only LGBTQ+-exclusive place on this list, in Silom, five minutes' walk from DJ Station. Five floors: private rooms on the 2nd, male dorms on the 3rd to 5th. The editor's tip is to stay on the 5th floor, where socialising is easiest and a secret social space keeps the night interesting.

Closer to Don Mueang Airport than to the tourist areas, which is the trade-off — but it puts Bangkok's onsen scene within a short ride. Most guests are young locals. The reception and common area are on the ground floor; reaching the rooms means crossing the car park and climbing a narrow staircase. Facilities are basic, cleanliness acceptable, lockers provided but bring your own padlock. The gay guest ratio is near 100% — most walk around in underwear, and eye contact leads straight to the showers or beds. This is the place you see in the videos on Twitter.

Three floors, with reception in the basement coffee shop and the rooms, including male-only dorms, on the 2nd and 3rd. The gay guest ratio is extremely high; guests cruise between the 2nd and 3rd floors, and those who catch each other's eye head to the showers together or back to a bed.

Next door to Siam Stadium Hostel, and similar — popular, mostly gay clientele. Reception is on the ground floor beside a coffee shop, along with self-service laundry and showers. The 2nd floor has 8-bed dorms with a large communal table outside, where people wait to catch someone's eye and take it to the showers. No hair dryers, and the room lockers have no locks, but there's free freshly brewed coffee, bread and instant noodles for breakfast. The bed sheets are thin enough that you'll notice if a roommate is getting off.

In Silom near The Quarter Silom, so if you want to be close to GOD and DJ Station this is the best-located hostel here — most of the gay venues are within walking distance, which is more than can be said for the others. The capsules are reasonably comfortable. The gay guest ratio isn't as high as the others, though some guests have had experiences — the editor's last stay had two gay roommates but nothing happened.
